Stake KYC & AML Policy
This page outlines the Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies that govern the Stake platform. These protocols are designed to verify the identity of all account holders, prevent financial crimes, and maintain the integrity of the platform. Compliance with these standards ensures a secure, regulated, and fair betting environment for every registered user.
Purpose of KYC & AML Compliance
Stake applies strict KYC and AML procedures to confirm user identities, eliminate fraudulent activity, and prevent the platform from being used for financial crimes or illicit purposes. These procedures form the foundation of a compliant and secure operating environment.
This policy is in place to ensure the following:
- Maintenance of a fair play environment in which all participants compete under equal, regulated conditions;
- Protection of the platform’s financial ecosystem from misuse, abuse, or criminal exploitation;
- Adherence to applicable Canadian regulatory requirements and international compliance standards;
- Safeguarding of personal data and account information for every registered user;
- Fulfilment of reporting obligations to relevant regulatory and law enforcement authorities.
KYC Requirements and ID Verification
Every new player on the Stake platform is required to complete a mandatory identity check before accessing full account functionality, including deposits, withdrawals, and participation in real-money wagering. Document submission must be completed accurately and promptly to avoid account restrictions.
The following documents are required as part of the verification process:
- A valid, government-issued photo ID such as a passport, provincial driver’s licence, or national identity card;
- Proof of residency, such as a recent utility bill, bank statement, or official correspondence dated within the last three months, displaying the account holder’s full name and current address;
- Verification of the payment method used for deposits and withdrawals, which may include a bank statement, a screenshot of an e-wallet account, or a copy of the card used (with sensitive digits obscured);
- Any additional supporting documentation that Stake may request during enhanced due diligence reviews.
AML Measures and Transaction Monitoring
Stake employs a comprehensive set of security measures to combat money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and other prohibited financial activities across the platform. These controls operate continuously and are designed to detect, investigate, and report irregular conduct.
Specific actions taken as part of the AML framework include:
- Continuous monitoring of betting activity and financial transactions across all user accounts;
- Deployment of automated systems configured to flag suspicious activity, unusual deposit patterns, or irregular withdrawal behaviour;
- Conducting detailed audits of high-value or atypical transfers that fall outside expected account behaviour;
- Applying enhanced due diligence procedures to accounts identified as higher risk based on activity profiles or jurisdictional factors;
- Maintaining detailed records of all transactions and identity verification outcomes in compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements;
- Reporting suspicious findings to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) and other relevant authorities as legally required;
- Periodically reviewing and updating internal AML procedures to align with evolving legislative standards.
Prohibited Activities
All users registered on the Stake platform are required to observe strict conduct standards as a condition of account access. Any action that undermines the integrity of the KYC or AML framework constitutes a violation of platform policy and applicable law.
The following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Creating or operating multiple accounts under the same identity or across different identities on the platform;
- Submitting forged, altered, or stolen documents during the identity check or document submission process;
- Depositing, wagering, or withdrawing funds that originate from illegal sources or criminal activity;
- Structuring transactions in a manner intended to circumvent automated monitoring or regulatory thresholds;
- Sharing, selling, or transferring account access to third parties under any circumstances;
- Exploiting technical vulnerabilities, errors, or system weaknesses to gain an unfair financial advantage;
- Providing false or misleading personal information to the platform at any stage of registration or verification.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Any breach of the Stake platform’s KYC or AML standards will result in immediate disciplinary action, regardless of the nature or severity of the violation. The platform reserves the right to act without prior notice when suspicious activity or policy violations are detected.
Penalties for non-compliance may include temporary account suspension, permanent account deactivation, freezing of funds associated with suspicious transactions, forfeiture of balances linked to confirmed fraudulent or unlawful conduct, voiding of active bets or accumulated winnings obtained in violation of platform policy, referral of account details and transaction records to FINTRAC or relevant law enforcement bodies, and legal proceedings where applicable under Canadian law.
User Responsibilities and Account Protection
All registered users bear direct responsibility for the accuracy and currency of the information held on their accounts. Each account holder is required to provide truthful personal data at the time of registration and to update that information promptly if any details change. Users must complete the verification process in a timely manner and cooperate fully when Stake requests additional documentation as part of ongoing due diligence or enhanced review procedures. Failure to respond to verification requests within a reasonable timeframe may result in account restrictions until compliance is confirmed. Users are also responsible for monitoring their own account activity and notifying the platform immediately upon identifying any transactions or behaviours that appear suspicious or unauthorised. Responsible use of the platform, including maintaining secure login credentials and protecting personal data, is a fundamental obligation of every registered participant.
Fair Play, Transparency, and User Safety
Stake is committed to operating with full transparency and to upholding the principles of fair play across all aspects of the platform. The KYC and AML framework exists to protect the broader user community, foster trust in the platform’s operations, and maintain a safe betting environment consistent with Canadian regulatory standards.
The following core principles guide the platform’s approach to compliance and user safety:
- Adherence to applicable Canadian laws and international KYC and AML standards, including guidelines issued by FINTRAC;
- Protection of personal data in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation;
- Proactive auditing of transactions to identify and address irregular activity before harm occurs;
- Guarantee of equal conditions and fair access for all verified participants, free from manipulation or interference;
- Maintenance of secure systems and protocols designed to prevent unauthorised access to account holder information;
- Ongoing staff training and internal compliance reviews to ensure the platform’s security measures remain current and effective;
- Full cooperation with regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies as required under Canadian law.
